INCOSE: Resources Deep Dive

Join us for our March chapter meeting where we’ll share some of the benefits of INCOSE membership. You’ll hear from INCOSE leadership on the organization’s strategy, Working Group members, those who have obtained Systems Engineering certification, and will learn more about how to make the most of your membership. This session will be offered in the hybrid format- zoom link will be shared with all registrants prior to the event.
David Long has spent over 30 years helping organizations assess, adopt, and deploy methods to increase their systems engineering proficiency while simultaneously working to advance the state of the art. David founded and led Vitech where he developed innovative, industry-leading methods and software to engineer next-generation systems. He co-authored A Primer for Model-Based Systems Engineering and frequently delivers keynotes and workshops around the world.
An INCOSE Fellow and Expert Systems Engineering Professional, David was the 2014/2015 President of INCOSE. David currently serves as INCOSE’s Director for Strategic Integration and as a coach in INCOSE’s Technical Leadership Institute.
Sean McCoy is the Chief Architect for controls at Trane. He received his CSEP in 2016, has 13 patents, holds a 6-Sigma black belt, and has over 40 years of experience designing and developing software systems. 27 of those years have been at Trane developing Building Automation Systems and helping develop Trane’s Systems Engineering discipline. Sean has been an active member of INCOSE since 2011 and is the Past-President of the North Star Chapter (2021). He has been on the Great Lakes Regional Conference (GLRC) conference planning committee for 2017-2019, and he is a member of the INCOSE Institute for Technical Leadership. His most recent work assignment was leading the effort to develop a holistic System Architecture for Building Automation Systems – from machine controls to the cloud. In his spare time, Sean likes to play guitar and is often seen at Rock Camp Experience events in the Twin Cities.
Jennifer Russell, EISE, CSEP is the Program and Management Support Leader on Garver’s Water team and is the Smart Cities Initiative Chair for INCOSE. Garver offers engineering, planning, and environmental services. Over the past 25 years, she honed her West Point leadership motto of being a “Leader of Character.” From strategic planning to tactical logistics, Jennifer has invested in public service and infrastructure. The domains of her experience are a testament to the portability of her skill set and include water systems, software systems, high-speed rail, transit systems, highway systems, and multi-modal connectivity. Jennifer holds a B.S. in Engineering Psychology from the United States Military Academy and an M.S. (2003) and Engineer Degree (2007) in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California.
Smart Cities Initiative– As cities around the world are unevenly waking up after a pandemic coma, cities are seeking opportunities to continue evolving toward being ‘smart.’ Cities may wish to take a new approach to provide services that meet the goals of the city and needs of the residents in new and innovative ways. The implementation of such approaches will define the new “smart city.” We propose a human-centric model to help city authorities to make decisions with human needs in mind. Such a human-centric model will help identify and classify technological investments with the greatest positive impact for their residents. This presentation will introduce this human-centric model, the INCOSE-TUS Smart Cities Reference Model and provide an update on our modeling developments.
